Many people would choose undereye concealer over any other makeup product if they had to choose just one, yet they often find that it never completely clings to the skin, even when using concealers developed exclusively for the undereye area. Here's how to apply and set your undereye concealer so it doesn't budge throughout the day. While this may appear to be a lot to memorise at first, trust us when we say it will pay off.
1. Moisturise
Skin care comes first, followed by makeup. We wouldn't put on foundation before moisturising, so the same rationale should apply to our under-eye concealer. Even more so because the skin is particularly sensitive there and finer wrinkles are more prevalent.
2. Make Use Of Your Hands
While some makeup artists swear by the gentle touch of a concealer brush, our founder prefers to apply concealer using her hands before going in with any tools. Applying undereye concealer with your fingers allows it to blend into the skin rather than sit on top of it. Warm hands assist the foundation melt into the undereye area, so make sure to warm up your hands before applying it.
3. Layering is Key
Even if your under eye bags require more full coverage, we advise layering concealer rather than applying the darkness-reducing gold all at once. The more you prime your skin and apply sheer layers before applying concealer, the less likely you are to end up with runny or cakey concealer.
4. Setting Powder
A common misconception is that powder will make you look cakey, but like everything else, there is a key to achieving that flawless skin we all desire. Before applying the powder, make sure the concealer hasn't settled into any fine lines. Set the concealer with a damp sponge or a tiny brush by delicately pressing the powder under the eyes. To set the concealer, use a very light transparent powder with a brightening formula. You want a smooth powder that won't settle into fine wrinkles because your undereye skin is thin. Thick powders should be avoided because they might make the eyes look heavy. Apply a small amount, wait for it to dry, and then brush away any excess.
These four tips can help keep your concealer from cracking and making sure they last as long as possible. It all boils down to selecting the appropriate products and employing the appropriate technique. However, it is not always possible to prevent the concealer from seeming patchy at the end of the day, which is quite natural. Many factors, such as excessive sweating, oily skin, or excessively dry skin, might affect how your makeup appears at the end of the day - not everyone has been blessed to live like a celeb with a full glam team available at all hours of the day.
